Duomo is the only interchange between the two lines in the centre, so both drop you under the square. The exits are signposted for Piazza del Duomo and for the Galleria; take the Piazza del Duomo exit and you surface facing the facade.

The visitor security line is on the right as you face the cathedral. The left-hand northernmost door is the free worshippers' entrance and does not lead to the visitor route, the terraces or the museum.

Bags are checked at the line. Suitcases, glass containers and helmets are refused, and shoulders and knees must be covered. There is no left-luggage at the cathedral itself.

The stairs and the lift have separate entrances and separate queues from the cathedral door, and the lift queue is the longer of the two between 10:00 and 14:00.
Tips
- Duomo station is on both M1 and M3, so you rarely need to change lines to reach it.
- Walking from Milano Centrale takes about 35 minutes; the metro takes about a third of that.
- The square is inside Milan's restricted traffic zone, so arriving by car means paying the Area C congestion charge and parking in a garage several streets away.
- Taxis cannot stop on the square itself; the nearest ranks are on the side streets, and a ride from Centrale is far slower than M3 in traffic.
- If you land late and the metro has closed, night buses replace the lines on the same tickets.
